Description
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy of Infocom (THGITW) is an interactive fiction video game based on Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy novel series. Originally released in 1984 by Infocom, the game follows the same story as the books, with some original content, and takes the player on an adventure through the universe as Arthur Dent. The player takes on the role of Arthur who is trying to save the world from destruction. During the game, the player navigates various galaxies, completes various tasks and solves puzzles.
The game has a point system. Points are earned throughout the game by solving puzzles, finding items and completing tasks. Players can also find secret items and locations to improve their points total. The player is rated based on the points they accumulate for various activities.
The game features various characters from the novel, such as Ford Prefect, Zaphod Beeblebrox, Marvin the Paranoid Android and of course, Arthur Dent. The goal of the game is to complete different tasks, find out information to save the world and escape as a hero. The game is packed with jokes, puns and witty riddles, along with the same charm and wit of Adams’ creation. The user interface includes a unique navigation system which allows the player to explore the universe.
THGITW is an adventure game which combines traditional puzzle-solving with humorous elements. The game achieved great success during its initial release and has since become a cult classic. It is still considered to be one of the best interactive fiction games of all time.
