Description

Them and Us is a card game for 3-5 players that is suitable for ages 8 and up. It was created by Dan Machulis and illustrated by Greg May.

The game is centered around building relationships between two groups of people. The two groups are represented by two decks of cards: “Them” cards and “Us” cards. Each deck consists of a variety of characteristics that show how players are different, such as age, religion, home country, etc.

Players take turns playing cards from their hand to create relationships between the two groups. For example, if one player plays an “Us” card with the characteristic “John” and another player plays a “Them” card with the characteristic “Mary” the result is a relationship between John and Mary. The goal of the game is to create the most relationships between the two groups.

Players can score points by creating relationships and also points are subtracted for false relationships, such as playing a “John” card with a “Mary” card. The game ends when all the cards have been played and the player with the highest score wins.

Them and Us is easy to learn, but provides a lot of opportunities for intelligent strategy as players must weigh their options and think carefully about how they are going to create relationships between the two groups. It encourages players to think critically about the world around them and their relationships within it.
