Description
Sun Haen is a traditional dice game that originated in Korea and is still widely played today. Players can choose to play with two, three, or four players. The game uses Yut sticks (or Nori sticks), which are flat wooden sticks that resemble chopsticks. Each Yut stick has numbers on it ranging from one to four. Before the game starts, the players must flip all of the Yut sticks and count how many dots are facing up. The total number of dots indicates how many spaces each of the player’s pieces will move.
Players first decide who goes first and in a clockwise fashion begin their turns. Once all the pieces are placed, players take turn rolling five Yut sticks. The total number of dots facing up indicates how many pieces can move. For example, if all five Yut sticks have three dots facing up, this is equivalent to rolling a three, which can be used to move three pieces that are currently on the board. If four of the Yut sticks have two dots facing up and the other has four dots facing up, that is equivalent to rolling a two and four, which can be used to move two pieces two spaces and another piece four spaces.
There is also a special move called a ‘Mae-hong’. This move is achieved when four of the five Yut sticks show the same number of dots facing up. For example, if four of the Yut sticks were two dots facing up and the other one was four dots facing up, this would result in a Mae-hong. This move allows the player to move one piece eight spaces around the board.
Players move their pieces around the board and the goal of the game is to be the first person to move all four pieces off the board. The player who completes this feat is declared the winner. Sun Haen is a great strategy game that will keep players on their toes and provide hours of fun for all ages.

The game is played on a board with a 9x9 square grid. Each player has nine pieces representing different ranks, with the uppermost rank being the Sun and the lowest rank being the Haen.
