Shirone the Dragon Girl is an action-adventure platformer game developed for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) by Athena. It was released in Japan in 1988 and is available in English through fan translation patches. The game stars the titular Shirone, a young girl cursed to take on the form of a dragon. Shirone must travel across a mystical land searching for a way to break her curse and return to her original form.

Shirone has five discrete levels, each featuring one of five elemental bosses that she must defeat in order to progress. Each level is populated with a variety of enemies, traps and pitfalls that Shirone must navigate. These include exploding bombs, boulders and spiked walls that she can use as platforms, or she can use her fire breath to destroy them. Shirone can alsoto grab hold of some enemies and use them as projectiles or as stepping stones.

Bosses are larger and tougher than the other enemies in the level, and Shirone must strategically use her fire breath, platforming skills and magic items to defeat them. Defeating bosses will reward Shirone with items that help her progress and new magical abilities.
