Description
Grime is an online, multiplayer, real-time strategy game that combines elements of both conventional RTS and roguelikes. The game was designed by independent developer Lazy 8 Studios and released in 2007.
In Grime, players take command of wizards that they must use to collect resources, build and upgrade structures, recruit armies, and deploy forces to defeat the evil monsters that are encroaching upon their base and trying to take it over. The action of the game takes place in a world of floating islands, with resources, structures and enemies spread over them. The wizards are able to manipulate the environment to their advantage, using levitation magic to raise islands, tearing holes in the drift to create shortcuts, or just scorching enemies with a lightning strike.
The game is played in real-time, allowing players to plan their strategy and adjust to the situation on the fly. The rounds are finite, and after nine days of battle the wizards can move on to the next level. As the game progresses, different levels have different layouts and strategic challenges, as well as new enemies to overcome. There are a variety of rewards based on what players choose to do while playing the game, including points and gems that can be exchanged for permanent power-ups.
