Description

Gigabuster is a fast-paced 2D side scrolling space shooter video game released in 1992 for the Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo Entertainment System and MS-DOS computers by Atlus. It was also rereleased for the Wii’s Virtual Console service in 2009.

The game revolves around spaceboy Jet and his robot friend Gigabuster as they battle their way through eight levels and five bosses. The objective of the game is to collect energy weapons, rescue hostages and destroy the energy crystals controlling the Gigabuster base.

Players progress by shooting enemies and obstacles with the limited energy weapons they have collected. Players must also make defensive decisions on when to use collected crystals to power their shields to survive enemy fire. Gigabuster features a stage select screen which players can use to return to completed stages and search for secret areas.

Gigabuster was positively received by critics because of its intense gameplay, level design and graphical style. The game is seen as a classic and a cult-hit from the 16-bit era of video gaming.
