Description
Fabled Lands: Lords of the Rising Sun is a heroic fantasy roleplaying game and adventure book series, written and published by the British company Expeditions between 1995 and 2002. It is set in the world of Fabled Lands, a fantasy world divided up into a series of realms and regions, each with its own unique set of races, cultures, gods, and politics. Players take the role of a hero, travelling through the Fabled Lands in search of glory, adventure, and treasures.
The game uses a unique rule system; unlike most other RPGs it does not use a traditional Dungeon Master. Instead, the game provides extensive detail of the various regions of the world and their NPCs; players are encouraged to use their own creativity and ideas to determine the outcomes of their journeys. Players can develop their own characters, choosing from five tribes/races and several classes, as well as customizing their character’s physical characteristics. Combat is fast and dangerous and lots of important decisions about what skills to purchase and which weapons to use have to be made.
As a series of game books, each book comprises a range of self-contained adventures which the player can organize into a single campaign; after each book, characters are ranked and rewarded with gold. Characters can choose to remain loyal to one faction, or they might switch, in search of more looting or a better chance of success. There are lots of unique items, magical artifacts and cults to discover as the player navigates the Fabled Lands. Lords of the Rising Sun is a long series of books, with the potential for many hours of gameplay, and plenty of replay value.
